Gravel is easily movable, so it requires an edge so that it can be contained. Traditionally, galvanized steel has been used as the edge. This is because most people find it durable and malleable enough when curving. There are other materials to use too. Pressure treated wood, bricks, plastic, cedar and cobblestones can work well. The most important thing is to make sure that the gravel stops an inch from the edgings top. The standard path should be 3 to 4 feet, but you can make it as wide as you want.
