Carol and Glen
The Reverend Glen James Hallead
The Reverend Glen James Hallead was born and raised in
suburban Detroit, Michigan. He spent three years in the U.S.
Navy living in San Diego, CA and Bremerton, WA as well as
spending some significant time at sea and in such places as
Taiwan and the Philippines. After graduation from Central
Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Anthropology (1986) he attended Princeton Theological Seminary,
married his college sweetheart, Carol Diane Doelp (likewise from
the Detroit area) in 1984, graduated with a Masters of Divinity
(1986) and was ordained in 1987.
Glen and Carol spent four years serving the Westminster
Presbyterian Church in Upper St. Clair, PA (Pittsburgh
Presbytery) and it was during this time that the seed of interest
in mission was planted through a trip Glen took to Malawi and
Kenya. Shortly after that trip Glen accepted the position of
Pastor of the Waltham Presbyterian Church, Utica, IL (Blackhawk
Presbytery) where he also served for four years. During those
four years and after another two trips to Kenya the call came and
Glen and Carol and their four children ages 10 months – 7 years,
headed to Nairobi, Kenya where Glen served as the Partnership
Facilitator for the PC(USA)’s relationship with the Presbyterian
Church of East Africa, as well as the PCEA Projects Associate
during the PC(USA)’s “Year with Africans” focus. Carol served in
Ministry Through the Home. In 1995 Carol and Glen returned to
the Waltham Presbyterian Church where they served an additional
four years before accepting a call to return to mission, this
time to Chiang Mai, Thailand where they served as Coordinators of
the Christian Volunteers in Thailand Program and the PC(USA)
Young Adult Volunteer Program.
In 2006 they made the move to Ghana, West Africa where Glen
assumed the position of West Africa Regional Liaison for the
Presbyterian Church (USA). In that capacity Glen acted as the
primary contact for the PC(USA) and worked to enhance
relationships between the Evangelical Church of Niger, the
Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana
and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana and the
Presbyterian Church of Sierra Leone. In this capacity Glen was
also responsible for resourcing PC(USA) congregations and
judicatory bodies who were connecting with Presbyterians in West
Africa. Carol continued her much needed Ministry Through the
Home and they shared responsibility for the coordination of the
PC(USA)’s Young Adult Volunteer Program. Glen and Carol more
recently have felt the call to return to pastoral ministry in the
USA and are looking forward to being able to provide more
adequate educational opportunities for their two youngest
children, Jacob age 16 (Grade 11) and Caleb age 14 (Grade 9).
They are excited about their oldest son Zach’s engagement to his
high school sweetheart, another “mish kid” (Zach is living in
Glenville, PA) and their daughter Natalie’s interest in possibly
serving in missionary education upon graduation from college
(Cornerstone University, Grand Rapids, MI - 2011).
Glen and Carol enjoy the outdoors, gardening and
canning/freezing their goodies, camping and hiking, as well as
individual interests such as model railroading and cross
stitching. No-so-secret addictions: Kenyan Tea and Ethiopian
coffee.
