Christian education is a vital concern of First Presbyterian Church. The Bible tells us in Psalm 78 that we should teach the lessons from our past and discover the glorious truths of God. Jesus was never too busy to take time to bless the little children that came to him. He admonished his disciples in Mark 10:14 for telling mothers who were bringing their little children to Jesus to go away and not to bother the Lord. Our Christian Education Committee works very hard to offer many opportunities for families to learn of God’s love for us.
We have Sunday school classes for children from the age of 4 to adults who meet each Sunday morning at 9:30 from September to June. We also have several intergenerational activities during the year that offers all our church families the opportunity to join us and share in Christian fellowship, building lasting Christian relationships. Some activities include an egg hunt, special breakfast programs, and an annual bowling party.
Our VBS program is one of the most outstanding accomplishments each year. We have over 100 local children ranging in ages from infant through 12 attending each summer, many of them hearing of Jesus’ love for them for the first time. We gather together for our evening meals each night during our VBS week, which is a unique and very important part of this ministry. All our young participants are enveloped in the outpouring of God’s love through more than 70 VBS volunteers.
