SENIOR
CHOIR
under the direction of Dr.
Michael Galloway accompanied by
organist Mrs. Kay Galloway
About the Choir
The Senior
Choir of the First Presbyterian Church is open to all interested singers
beginning with high school students. We rehearse Thursday evenings
at 7:30 in Fellowship Hall and warm up for Sunday services at 10:30,
also in Fellowship Hall. We sing a wide variety of anthems: from the
music of classical composers such as Bach, Mozart, Handel and Mendelssohn
to gospel tunes, spirituals, and the best in traditional and contemporary
choral literature.
The choir
also presents special music during both the Christmas and Easter seasons,
often with instrumental accompaniment. In recent years special Lenten
or Easter music has included theRutter Requiem and the Fauré
Requiem; Entrata Festiva by Flor Peeters; O, Clap Your
Hands by Vaughn Williams; the beautiful chorale by Johannes Brahms: Mary Magdalene; and two compositions by American composer John
Leavitt: Easter and Missa Festiva.
Musical
offerings at Christmas music have included the Christmas portion of
Handel's Messiah; Leavitt's Hodie; Carols
and Lullabies of the Southwest by Conrad Susa; as well as
a medley of international carols: Cold December Flies Away, Il est ne, Sweet Little Jesus Boy, Mary's
Boy Chile, and Betelehemu.
Anyone
interested in singing with the choir should contact Michael Galloway
at 724-5329 or mikenkay@epix.net or just show up at a Thursday rehearsal!
