COMMUNION PREPARATION
Materials Needed:
1 large loaf white bread (square sides)
1 communion loaf
Grape juice: 1-48 oz.jar or 1-12 oz. can frozen concentrate and 1-6
oz can frozen concentrate
To Prepare for 200 Communing: takes at least one hour.
Cut bread crusts off and cube it (it helps if the bread is frozen). An electric knife simplifies the operation. (This is good to do at home.) Ordinarily there is need for about 200 cubes.
Reconstitute grape juice in pitcher in cupboard. The communion "pourer"with squeeze top makes glass filling easy. It is also in the top cupboard.
Communion glasses are disposable plastic cups found in communion cupboard. Arrange 28 cups in each tray leaving the second row empty.
Bread cubes are arranged in the bottom of the eight bread trays. If pieces are cut small, they won't be crushed by the plates placed on top of them.
Small communion loaf is placed on the communion plate (also called the 'patten'). Place eight inch doily between loaf of bread and plate. Cut loaf only about 1/4" from top so it appears to be broken when it is used in the service.
Remainder of grape juice is poured into communion pitcher.
Place communion pitcher and plate at the back of the church with the
ushers, so elders serving communion can carry it forward.
To Set Communion Table:
1. Betty Weller (724-2386) is in charge of caring for the crocheted communion cloth.
2. Set communion chalice to right of center of the table leaving space for the bread plate in the center and pitcher to the left, both of which the elders serving communion will bring forward.
3. Set drink trays in layers of four on either side of the table on the corners (see diagram). Set bread trays in layers of four on either side of the table in front of the drink trays but slightly in toward the center. (This makes it an easier reach for the minister.)

To Clean Up: Takes about 30 minutes.
Make count and register the number of people taking communion. This can be done by counting the number of used or unused communion cups. Mark the number on the sheet posted on the inside door of the communion cupboard.
Communion elements that have been consecrated should be eaten at the church.
Collect communion glasses in pews and dispose of them. Wash communion service and trays and put them away.
