Head Usher arrives by 10:30 a.m. Ushers and Greeters,PLEASE be at your posts by 10:40 a.m. IfGreeters and Ushers work together, we can offer a satisfying experience for the congregation, including visitors. A cheery disposition and a pleasant greeting will show worshipers they are truly welcome. Please wear your name badges while serving.

Before the Worship Service:

Ushers, you may be asked to help the Head Usher make the church ready for the service:

Greeters, please assist Head Usher in readying materials for the congregation.

The Head Usher assigns placement of Greeters and Ushers.

  • Greeter will meet worshipers at each door to the sanctuary.
  • Ushers will be stationed at the back of the sanctuary, staffing each aisle.
  • Greeters, as you welcome each worshiper, call them by name if you know it. If you don't know it, politely ask, then introduce them to an Usher.(Greeters will not usually give worshipers service bulletins.)
  • Encourage Visitors to sign the Guest Book. Greeters may hand Visitors a Welcome Package;or, the packets may be placed beside the Guest Book.
  • An Usher escorts worshipers to a pew, showing regulars to their regular places if known. If unsure where they usually sit, ask if they have a seating preference. Seat Visitors in places not usually taken.
  • Ushers hand each worshiper a bulletin as they enter the pew. Watch for persons coming in ramp door and bring them a program.

During the Service

Greeters watch for latecomers and have them wait quietly at the back during prayer or scripture reading, then
Ushers may seat latecomers in the back row, or farther forward while the congregation is standing and singing.
During collection, Ushers and Greeters serve in the aisles designated by the Head Usher.

After the service:

Greeters, stand at the door opposite the pastor's station to bid a pleasant farewell as the congregation is leaving.
Greeters, please attend the fellowship time after the worship service; being alert for Visitors. Make them feel welcome and comfortable, and introduce them to others.
Ushers, please assist the Head Usher in his post-service duties as may be requested: gathering of attendance sheets, picking up used bulletins, rearranging the lounge, locking the ramp door, extinguishing the Christ Candle, turning off the sound system, turning off sanctuary lights, turning off the light in the Memorial Cabinet; and turning the phone ringer back to ON -- generally leaving the church in good order, as it was found.

Thanks to all Worship Assistants who give their time and energy to our church and to the glory of God.
